Harmonic minor and gypsy scale
Harmonic minor and the Spanish gypsy scale
Hello everyone today's tutorial will be on harmonic minor and the Spanish gypsy scale. There are over 100 scales on the piano but today we'll be concentrating on this two. We'll be practising this scales on C natural. Let's start.
The Spanish gypsy scale
Formula: 1 b2 3 4 5 b6 7
Notes: C Db E F G Ab A#
The harmonic minor scale
Formula: 1 2 b3 4 5 b6 7
Notes: C D Eb F G Ab B
Both the harmonic minor and Spanish gypsy scale can be played in all keys using the formula. Learning the scale is very good but incorporating it is better.
So from my findings the harmonic minor scale can be used in the key of Eb. It will definitely spice up your playing. Improvisation gives you an upper edge.
The Spanish gypsy scale can be used in the key of Ab. Improvising on this scale also gives you an upper edge.
Get used to these scales, let your fingers move freely on the piano. Hope this tutorial helps. See you next time.
